Our Earth commitment

By insisting on stringent earth-friendly standards, things are changing.

We didn’t start this change, but we sure are grateful to the pioneers who requested and developed these products and we’re humbled to step into this wave of change that’s shifting expectations and business practice.

Our promise to you is that we will always strive for the most earth-friendly products, suppliers and supply chain solutions we can. We’re a small business, so we’re still new and continually learning. We’re pretty proud of the suppliers we’ve found so far, but we won’t rest on our laurels, we’ll continue to ask, explore and insist upon great products.

Thanks for joining with us to create change at every level.

Packaging

The Herbal Starter Kit is our main product at this stage, and so most of this section relates to that, as it’s our main supply chain. It also relates to the business more generally as well – and I will update this section again soon, making clear the core sustainability values for our business.

Eco-mailers
There are so many wonderful companies offering amazing eco-mailers these days. On the shoulders of giants we certainly stand, and dependent upon availability, we’re so grateful to the team at Heaps Good and Hero for awesome eco-mailers. They are:

  • Plant-based, contains zero poly plastic. Ecomailers are made from corn starch, PLA (vegetable-based plastic material) and PBAT (composting co-polymer).
  • Certified Home compostable (AS5810) and Commercially compostable (AS4736). This means both Heaps Good and Hero eco-mailers comply with strict Australian domestic composting standards. And, after breaking down, they leave no harmful nasties behind.
  • Aussie-Owned

Herbal Starter Kit Boxes
We searched high and low to find 100% recycled, Australian-made cardboard boxes. It wasn’t enough for us to find boxes that YOU can recycle, we wanted the box ITSELF to be recyclable. Our holy grail would be 100% post consumer waste recycled boxes – if you know of anyone, use the contact form to let us know!

Tissue Paper
100% recycled paper.

Herb packets
They might seem like plastic, but the herb packets are actually made from genuine cellophane (not polypropylene). These bags are biodegradable and home compostable.

All of the stickers, and tape are home compostable as well.

Printing

We’re so grateful how many other businesses are as committed to sustainability as we are. We certainly couldn’t do it without them. We’re so lucky to work with printers who try at every stage of their business to innovate and reduce their impact on the environment.

Not only do they use 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, but they’ve changed their business practices to create a more circular business, thereby reducing waste and harmful chemicals all throughout their supply chain (where they can). They’ve done this both through business practices and investing in cutting-edge technology to reduce waste.

The long and short of it is:

  • 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper
  • Vegetable based inks
  • Australian printed
  • Green-powered factory

Sourcing

Herbs and beeswax
Our herbs are always premium certified organic and we hope to one day develop relationship with local growers to ensure quality, consistency and a bio-regional supply chain. This not only supports livelihood and ensures quality but it reduces air miles and contributes to soil regeneration, pollinator species, biodiversity etc.

Our beeswax comes from local apiarists who are responsible and humane. Their hives are chemical free and stationary. They leave plenty of honey for the bees and ensure they have access to a variety of flowers.
